چکیده
Not your usual superconductor Most superconductors have only one superconducting phase. Khim et al . measured the magnetic susceptibility of heavy fermion material CeRh 2 As to reveal presence two distinct phases, which emerges from other when an external field is applied (see Perspective by Pourret and Knebel). The researchers ascribe unusual properties its crystal structure, globally centrosymmetric but consists noncentrosymmetric layers. —JS

High-field superconducting transition induced by correlated disorder.
The “glassy” superconducting transition at high magnetic fields can be induced by columnar disorder. A model is proposed in which the thermodynamics of Bose condensation of Cooper pairs into the lowest Landau level eigenstate of the random potential can be solved exactly. The solution reflects a peculiar character of the high-field limit: For example, the effective dimensionality of the transit...

The application of magnetic fields, chemical substitution, or hydrostatic pressure to strongly correlated electron materials can stabilize electronic phases with different organizational principles. We present evidence for a field-induced quantum phase transition, in superconducting Nd0.05Ce0.95CoIn5, that separates two antiferromagnetic phases with identical magnetic symmetry. At zero field, w...
متن کاملNewMagnetic-Field-InducedMacroscopicQuantumPhenomenon in High-Tc Cuprates: Confined Field-Induced DensityWaves in the Superconducting State
We reveal a novel macroscopic quantum phenomenon induced by a magnetic field. It corresponds to the non-integer quantization of the superfluid density in a superconductor with gap nodes due to the generation of confined fieldinduced density waves (CFIDW) over a portion of the Fermi surface (FS). The Landau numbers L are not sufficient to index these macroscopic quantum states and new quanrum nu...
متن کاملDisorder-induced inhomogeneities of the superconducting state close to the superconductor-insulator transition.
Scanning tunneling spectroscopy at very low temperatures on homogeneously disordered superconducting titanium nitride thin films reveals strong spatial inhomogeneities of the superconducting gap Delta in the density of states. Upon increasing disorder, we observe suppression of the superconducting critical temperature Tc towards zero, enhancement of spatial fluctuations in Delta, and growth of ...
